Boys and Girls Club (South San Francisco)
( 2 items )
(Norm Martin)
Boys and Girls Club of SSF was founded in 1956 by Rotary Club member Mr. Norm Hynding who had made a commitment to community service on behalf of the Rotary Club.
Mr. Hynding realized that SSF needed a youth servicing organization. In 1956 his idea for a Boys Club at Orange Park was not well received by the City of SSF, so he approached the SF Water District and received an easement upon which to build the Boy’s Club of SSF.
Herbert Hoover dedicated the Boys Club Building on Orange Avenue in 1964. Since then the Boys Club has become the Boys and Girls Club of SSF and has branched out to several SSF neighborhoods as well as those in neighboring Pacifica.
